Restore teeth with cosmetic porcelain veneers or crowns
Problems with the smile, especially cosmetic ones, can have a negative impact on one’s confidence and self-esteem. With the help of Dr. David Seccombe, Dr. Nicholas Gih, and their team at Courtyard Dentistry in Claremont, California, you may be able to cover and disguise these issues using dental veneers. Or in some instances, when restoration needs to be performed, Dr. Seccombe and Dr. Gih may recommend the placement of a dental crown. Dental crowns and veneers are incredibly popular cosmetic treatments at our office.
What are porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are custom-made to fit over the front surfaces of teeth. They are used to improve the appearance of stained, chipped, cracked, or misshapen teeth. In addition to being aesthetically pleasing, porcelain veneers can also help protect against further damage. Because they are fabricated for each patient to match the existing teeth’ color, shape, and size, they blend in beautifully and do not appear as obvious dental restorations.
What is the process needed to obtain natural-looking veneers?
The process typically involves three stages: preparation, scans, and placement.
- Preparation. First, a small amount of enamel is removed from the front surfaces of the teeth so that the veneer can be fitted snugly.
- Digital Scanning. Next, a scan will be taken and our doctors will design and mill your custom veneers.
- Placement. Once the porcelain veneer is complete, it is bonded into place with a special cementing product used to bond crowns, bridges, and veneers in place.
What is a dental crown?
Drs. Seccombe and Gih describe the dental crown as a “tooth cap” fitting over the entire surface of a tooth that has had the decay or damage remedied. It is custom-made for each patient and made from ceramic. Dental crowns restore the shape, size, strength, and appearance of a tooth. A dental crown can also be used to protect a cracked tooth from further damage or can be created for a dental implant to replace a missing tooth.
